Winterbottom screening cancelled
A festival screening of Michael Winterbottom's movie The Look Of Love was cancelled because the film had yet to be classified.
The director's movie - which stars Steve Coogan as porn baron Paul Raymond - was due to be shown at the Durban International Film Festival but the event was called off because the film has not yet been seen, classified and cleared for screening by the South Africa Film And Publication Board, reported Variety.
The festival said it was called off because they "were unable to send a screener in time to the Film And Publication Board as per their request".
The statement went on: "As the film has not been exempted from classification, we were unable to screen it. The film has not been classified by the board. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
However, Variety reported that another screening of the film, which also stars Anna Friel, is scheduled for July 28.
It was the second controversy at the festival, as last week the event opening night film Of Good Report was refused clearance by the government agency.
Durban festival manager Peter Machen said in a statement: "Unfortunately, the Film And Publication Board has refused to allow the release of Of Good Report. According to their communication to the festival, the film contains a scene that constitutes child pornography, and we are unable to legally show the film. I am very sorry about this."
