Wilson: Young Adult is dark film
Patrick Wilson thinks his latest movie, Young Adult, represents a "big leap forward" for its writer and director team.
The movie, which stars Charlize Theron, is helmed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody, who last teamed up for 2007's Juno.
It centres around young adult novelist Mavis Gary, who returns to her home-town in Minnesota and plots to steal back her high-school boyfriend, played by Patrick, who's now happily married with a baby.
And Patrick says the film has a darker tone than Juno.
"I think it's a big leap forward for both of them (Jason and Diablo)," he explained. "You get the wittiness Diablo's presented in other movies, but you get this dark undertaking.
"When Jason and Diablo are together I think that caustic sense of humour comes out. I think you see that on screen."
Charlize has earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role as the destructive Mavis, who she's described as a "real" and "complex" character.
