Whitney Houston is set to make her movie comeback - in a remake of 1976 film Sparkle.
Singer Whitney, whose last starring film role was in The Preacher's Wife in 1996, has been cast alongside Jordin Sparks and Mike Epps in the film, Variety reports.
The original film was about three sisters who sing in a church choir in Harlem in the 1950s and who go on to become a successful girl group.
The remake, directed by Salim Akil and scripted by Mara Brock Akil, will move the action to 1968 in Detroit during the rise of Motown.
The story will focus on the youngest sister Sparkle, played by Jordin in her first film role, who fights for fame while her family falls apart.
Production on the film is due to start next month.
