Wan quitting horror film genre

Insidious: Chapter 2 could be James Wan's last horror outing

James Wan has announced he is finished with making horror movies.

The Australian director has been at the helm of many grisly films, including Saw, Dead Silence and the Insidious movies, but has now admitted it is "time for a change".

He told Moviefone: "I'm going to go on record and say I am finished with the horror genre. Conjuring and Insidious 2 are my two last scary movies.

"I spent the last 10 years of my life doing this. It's time for a change, for goodness sake."

James, 36, confessed he doesn't want to be pigeon-holed as just a horror director and would like to tackle other genres.

He explained: "Hollywood puts you in a box. If you do a successful comedy, then you're known as The Comedy Guy. If you do a successful car chase movie, then you become that guy. So I'm a student of cinema, so I just want to make sure I get the chance to make other kinds of films."

Asked what he would like to do instead of scaring his audiences, James said: "I hope that what I've learned in the last 10 years of making movies is... I've wanted to make crazy, big-budget movies since my very first movie. But I've been so successful with the indie movies that I've been known for, so it's hard to break out of that.

"But I like to think that in that time period, I've matured as a filmmaker and I've come to realise what is important for me in a film."

The filmmaker is set to direct the seventh instalment of the Fast And Furious action franchise.

Insidious: Chapter 2 is in cinemas now.
