Jean-Claude Van Damme's Bloodsport and Kickboxer films are to be remade, according to reports.

Bloodsport, which propelled the Belgian actor to mainstream fame following its release in 1987, will be rebooted by Relativity, with V For Vendetta filmmaker James McTeigue directing, reported Variety.

The upcoming remake, which will be rewritten by Craig Rosenberg from a Robert Mark Kamen script and based on a story developed by him and director Phillip Noyce, will explore the life of 21st century mercenaries as they collide with the underground world of Brazilian Vale Tudo fighting.

Shooting is set to start in Australia and Brazil in 2014.

Jean-Claude, nicknamed the Muscles from Brussels and JCVD, portrayed US martial artist Frank Dux in Newt Arnold's action film, which he also had a hand editing.

Shot for 1.1 million US dollars, Bloodsport, which also starred Forest Whitaker, banked around 11.7 million US dollars in America.

Meanwhile, Stephen Fung will take the reins on the new version of Kickboxer, with Jim McGrath and Dimitri Logothetis hard at work on a script, reported Collider.

It is not known if Jean-Claude, who played a martial arts fighter avenging his paralysed brother in a brutal fighting contest in Kickboxer, would make cameos in either of those films.
