Steinfeld stuns at Romeo premiere
Hailee Steinfeld showed she has leading lady status at the world premiere of her new film Romeo And Juliet.
The 16-year-old, who plays Juliet opposite Douglas Booth's Romeo, wore an eye-catching Prabal Gurung off-shoulder embellished dress with graphic stripes to the LA event, which she teamed with a pink Jimmy Choo clutch and black Brian Atwood heels.
The Oscar-nominated actress was joined by Taylor Swift, as well as co-stars Douglas, Ed Westwick and Kodi Smit-McPhee, on the Swarovski crystal-studded carpet at the ArcLight Hollywood for Carlo Carlei's reimagining of William Shakespeare's romantic tragedy.
Hailee, who also had support from friends Jaden Smith and Moises Arias, said she tried not to be intimidated by the role.
She told Variety: "You kind of have to take it as any other role because I feel like, if I made it a thing that I was a part of re-making this classic or playing this iconic role, I would sort of lose sight of the work.
"So I was able to read it on a clean slate and go into it and just sort if immerse myself in the entire world."
Douglas admitted the theme of forbidden love still resonates today, saying: "I think the theme's just still so relevant. I mean, all over the world you could find examples of people who are madly in love, but are being forced to marry other people. I think it's going on all over the world in all societies."
Screenwriter Julian Fellowes, who adapted Shakespeare's play for the big screen, chose a traditional retelling of the love story, so it would be different to Baz Luhrmann's version, which starred Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio.
"What hadn't been done was a romantic, traditional reinterpretation with a whole Kleenex box of tissues to cry through," the Downton Abbey creator said.
