A sequel to Spring Breakers, the wild film starring Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and James Franco, has been revealed.

Paris-based production company Wild Bunch has announced it will be bringing Spring Breakers: The Second Coming to the Cannes Film Festival market, Screen Daily reported.

Controversial director Harmony Korine's R-rated movie Spring Breakers followed a group of girls who rob a diner to fund a wild holiday where they befriend a Britney Spears-obsessed drug dealer. The film raised eyebrows for its scenes of drug-taking, violence and sex, featuring former Disney child stars Selena and Vanessa.

The follow-up film will feature a new group of girls enjoying their spring break, only to be confronted by a, "militant Christian sect that attempts to convert them."

Swedish filmmaker Jonas Akerlund, who has worked with Lady Gaga on some of her music videos, will direct from a script written by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh.

Meanwhile, Deadline reported that an early investor in the first film is suing producers Muse Productions for at least 1.3 million dollars (£770,000) in damages over profits from the movie.

Wicks Walker and his Division Films has filed a 26-page breach of written contract complaint claiming he invested money in the project in February 2012 "in exchange for certain rights, including without limitation certain repayment and credit rights."
