Harvey and Bob Weinstein have revealed plans to make a sequel to Shakespeare In Love.

The Weinstein Company have struck a deal with Miramax, the company they first founded, which will give them the rights to the studio's film library, with a view to making sequels, TV spin-offs and stage show adaptations.

Romantic comedy Shakespeare In Love starred Joseph Fiennes as the Bard and Gwyneth Paltrow as the wealthy lady who pretended to be a boy so she could act in his plays. The 1998 fictional film was co-written by acclaimed British playwright Tom Stoppard and contained many clever references to Shakespeare's work and his life. It won seven Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Gwyneth Paltrow and Best Supporting Actress for Dame Judi Dench as Queen Elizabeth I.

Harvey told Deadline.com: "I personally have never made a sequel, but I will make Shakespeare In Love as one. I've always wanted to do that and now we have the impetus to. There is so much intellectual property, and we're in an age where, for however long it lasts, content is king."

Other projects include a sequel to Matt Damon's gambling movie Rounders and TV series based on Good Will Hunting and David O Russell's Flirting With Disaster, which starred Ben Stiller as a man seeking his birth parents.

Harvey said: "I've discussed making Rounders 2 with Matt Damon and I would say that's going to be instantaneous. The guys [writers David Levien and Brian Koppelman] have a great idea, a way to make it more international where you start the card game in Paris, that's all I want to say. There might be a certain beautiful Parisian actress involved in it, and then we're off to the racetrack and Vegas with Matty and Edward Norton, and a new supervillain to replace John Malkovich."

He is reportedly eyeing Robert De Niro for that role.
