Matthias Schoenaerts has revealed that he would love to play Hamlet.

The Belgian star of Rust And Bone enjoys taking on tough roles, and reckoned that the Shakespearean anti-hero would be one of the ultimate challenges.

"I guess Hamlet probably. I fell in love ever since the first time I read Hamlet, which is almost 20 years ago," he said.

"I don't know if it's the most challenging, but it's just a very touching and interesting part," added the 34-year-old.

Matthias, who co-stars opposite Marion Cotillard in Rust And Bone, will next be reunited with the French star in Blood Ties - directed by her husband Guillaume Canet.

"I don't play any scenes with her though. My wife in the film is Zoe Saldana, who is a lovely actress," he said.

Mila Kunis and Clive Owen also star in the crime thriller.

"I worked with Guillaume, Marion's husband who directed it. I had a lot of fun shooting it so I'm very curious to see it," added Matthias.

:: Rust And Bone is in cinemas now.
