Her mother Helga was a renowned opera singer and Sandra lived in Germany for a time growing up as Helga was a member of the Salzburg Opera.
She went to the same high school as Warren Beatty and Shirley MacLaine – Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia.
Sandra is noted for her altruism – she donated $1m to the American Red Cross after 9/11, and another $1m after the 2004 Tsunami. After the Haiti earthquake in 2010, she gave $1m to Médecins Sans Frontières.
