RUTH Negga must be pinching herself today. It’s just been announced that she is to star with two of Hollywood’s hottest names in next year’s big movie release.

The Irish/Ethiopian actress, who became a household name playing gangster’s girl Rosie in RTE’s Love /Hate drama has been cast by Steve McQueen in his upcoming drama Twelve Years a Slave.

The director who made sex addiction drama ‘Shame’ and the Cannes Palm D’Or winning ‘Hunger’, both starring Michael Fassbender, has cast Negga as a runaway slave in the movie, Variety has reported.

She joins fellow Irish actor Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt in the big-screen adaptation of Solomon Northup's 1853 autobiography, which has been co-written by director Steve McQueen and John Ridley.

There Will Be Blood's Paul Dano has been cast as a brutal slave owner, while Monsters actor Scoot McNairy - who stars in Killing Them Softly alongside Brad Pitt - is to play a circus employee.

Chiwetel Ejioforl is already on board as an educated, married black man in New York who was tricked into slavery for 12 years.

His character finally earned back his freedom when a white Canadian carpenter smuggled letters to Northup's wife, which helped launch a court case that eventually set him free.

The 30-year-old actress, who starred in the first two series of Love/Hate and recently played Shirley Bassey in BBC drama Shirley has also starred in E4's Misfits, along with Love/Hate costar Robert Sheehan.

Negga who has bowed out of the next series of Love/Hate and can next be seen in the TV series Coup starring Gabriel Byrne before she begins filming with Brad Pitt in June.
