Rose Byrne for X-Men: Apocalypse
Rose Byrne is to appear in X-Men: Apocalypse as CIA Agent Moira MacTaggert.
The Bridesmaids star's character was first introduced in X-Men: First Class as the love interest of James McAvoy's Professor X.
Scriptwriter Simon Kinberg has now told Entertainment Weekly that Rose will join a group of newcomers who will play the younger versions of Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm in the next X-Men movie.
Simon said: "She's a significant character in the movie. We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them."
The screenplay writer added that Moira and Professor X's relationship will be "mined more" in the latest instalment.
Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult will also return, while Oscar Isaac will enter the franchise as the movie's main villain.
Simon also revealed that Apocalypse will wrap up certain plotlines which began in X-Men: First Class.
"This movie is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric, Raven and Hank, who are essentially our main characters. They're such young actors and young characters, so there's a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie."
X-Men: Apocalypse will be the final movie in a trilogy directed by Bryan Singer.
