Guy Ritchie has been offered the chance to direct Xerxes, the sequel to 300, according to reports.

Like the 2006 film 300, which starred Gerard Butler, Xerxes is based on one of Frank Miller's graphic novels.

The Sherlock Holmes director has not yet signed up to the offer from Warner Bros, according to New York magazine's Vulture blog.

Zach Snyder directed the epic 300, but it's thought he might be tied up with the 2012 movie Superman: Man Of Steel.

Guy enjoyed success with Warner Bros with Sherlock Holmes, which grossed a reported 524 million dollars worldwide.

His sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, is set for release this Christmas.
