'Retired' Fricker has little love left for Hollywood
OSCAR-winning actress Brenda Fricker is no longer as interested in appearing on the silver screen and is very selective about what roles she takes on.
The 68-year-old insisted there were few people for whom she would be willing to get back in front of the camera now.
"There's a small exemption list of actors and writers that I would work with. It's a very elite list, but I am essentially retired. I miss the few minutes between action and cut, where you can actually act, but films have turned into a circus now."
She was speaking at the launch of writer and director Virginia Gilbert's debut novel, 'Travelling Companion', in Dublin last night.
Fricker, pictured above at the launch, sported a pair of glasses that were tinted to cover her left eye. The former 'Casualty' actress had an accident at her home in 2009, leaving her with a scar on her forehead – and visually impaired in one eye.
