Jeremy Renner, Zoe Saldana and Casey Affleck were among the Hollywood stars who came together to honour those working out of the glare of the spotlight.

The Bourne Legacy star Jeremy, who will next be seen in American Hustle, honoured the movie's director David O Russell at the Hamilton Behind The Camera Awards in Los Angeles.

Star Trek actress Zoe presented a gong to Robbie Brenner and Rachel Winter, the producers of Dallas Buyer's Club, while Casey toasted Brad Ingelsby and Scott Cooper for their screenwriting on awards hopeful Out Of The Furnace.

Speaking on the red carpet, Gone Baby Gone star Casey paid tribute to the writing on his latest film: "It was beautifully written, it was very realistic, the relationships between the characters were very moving.

"Scott (who also directed the movie) put in a lot of work, all these people other than the actors have been working on this film for two years and some of these shows seem a little bit silly but it's really nice to recognise the work that has been done."

David O Russell, who was nominated for Oscars for The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook, said the opportunity to direct his new film American Hustle was too good to pass up, regardless of the awards buzz.

He said: "You always have to start by saying you don't know what will happen and you have to love the film and the actors.

"We leapt on the opportunity of inspiration, I'm old enough to recognise a great chance with this cast, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner, Louis CK, Elizabeth Rohm, Robert De Niro - that is an extraordinary opportunity to paint a world in the third part that started with The Fighter and Silver Linings."
