Chris Pratt has confirmed his involvement in the next Jurassic Park film, revealing that he is a long-time fan of the series.

After months of speculation, the US actor has signed on to play the lead role in Jurassic World, which will be directed and co-written by Colin Tremorrow.

"For me, Jurassic Park was really kind of my Star Wars. I lined up at the theatre to see it, I saw it opening night, I saw every sequel, I've seen it a whole bunch of times," he told QMI Agency.

"For me that was my big movie, I think I was 13 or 14 when it came out. And so it's a big deal for me to be any part of that, let alone this part I'm going to be playing. I'm thrilled about it."

The 34-year-old added: "Everybody around the world knows that franchise. More people know Jurassic Park than just about anything. I'm thrilled."

Chris - whose involvement was confirmed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Ron Howard days ago, when he tweeted that his daughter Bryce Dallas Howard would be co-starring with the actor in the next Jurassic Park film - is rumoured to be playing a ex-soldier who clashes with a scientist, played by Bryce.

Details about the fourth instalment, which comes 14 years after Jurassic Park III, are being kept under wraps, although Colin has previously dropped hints on Twitter that the plot will involve a return to Isla Nublar, the location of 1993's original Jurassic Park.

Chris, who has starred in Zero Dark Thirty, Moneyball and Her, will next be heard as one of the characters in The Lego Movie. He is also playing the lead role of Peter Quill/Star-Lord in Guardians Of The Galaxy.
