Amy Poehler has revealed her appearance failed to make the final cut of the first Anchorman film.

The funnywoman shot scenes as part of a side-plot about a domestic terrorist group targeting San Diego, but none of them made the final cut.

"I got cut out of the first Anchorman. I was a young gal, hadn't even got my teeth fixed, and I played a bank teller that Maya Rudolph and her gang robbed. I got into a fight," she told Vulture.

"That was one of the coolest experiences because Adam McKay, who's my friend and fellow UCB (Upright Citizens Brigade) member, was directing. Even back then, I was like, 'This movie is so long, I'm never going to make it in this'. I still feel that way."

Amy was invited back for the sequel along with best friend Tina Fey, and stars Nicole Kidman, Harrison Ford, Kristen Wiig, Vince Vaughn and Drake.

The 42-year-old admitted she has doubts about her cameo, adding: "We'll see if I actually make the cut. I was thinking for fun that I would put in my contract that if they cut me they'd really have to pay up."

Amy revealed the experience was a "blast".

"It was super fun. Those guys are so great and so funny. Will Ferrell's really the most talented person in the world. He's like a comedy Olympian," she said. "I got to go to Atlanta and hang with Paul Rudd and Will and [David] Koechner and [Steve] Carell. And Tina [Fey], of course. It was a blast."

But she is keeping tight-lipped over her character, teasing: "It's an incredibly researched, in-depth character that I spent five to 10 minutes thinking about before I did it."

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues will be released in December.
