Chris Pine is said to be in talks to star in the new coming-of-age movie Mud.
The Star Trek actor is considering a role in the film, which will centre on two teenage boys trying to help a fugitive escape from an island in the Mississippi, the LA Times' 24 Frames blog reports.
Pine would play the law-evading title character Mud, with Memento's Aaron Ryder set to produce.
Up-and-coming director Jeff Nichols is apparently scripting the film.
Ryder has compared the movie with Stand By Me, the classic adventure drama starring River Phoenix, Kiefer Sutherland and Jerry O'Connell.
