O'Connell: I want to play Elvis
Jack O'Connell has revealed he would like to portray Elvis Presley on screen.
The Starred Up actor admitted playing the king of rock and roll would be his dream role, and he would love the opportunity to show off his singing skills and his dance moves.
" I feel like I can do a really good impression of him," he said, adding: "I can vaguely sing, and definitely I can dance."
Jack next stars as Olympic-winning medallist-turned-prisoner of war Louis Zamperini in Unbroken, a survival drama directed by Angelina Jolie. Garrett Hedlund, Domhnall Gleeson and Luke Treadaway also star in the film, to be released later this year.
" It broke me, contrary to the title, so I hope that transpires to a sturdy piece of work," he said.
The 23-year-old admitted the part pushed him to the limit.
" There was certainly a pressure with it. But I've worked a long time to put myself in that position, so I wasn't about to complain," he said. "Also, I had support directly from Angelina's direction, which is priceless on a day-to-day basis.
" I had to diet. That was bad enough, but I had to be in a position where I could contend with the schedule when it got physical, to play the athlete. So I spent a lot of time on a treadmill and a lot of time not eating much as well and the two don't really work together in any form of blissful synchrony. I was up against it, but I'm glad to be on this side of the battle."
And Jack joked he wasn't quite firm friends with Angelina yet.
"I don't think she dislikes me. I'll settle for that. The kind of journey we went on, it's nice to know we can still talk to each other," he said.
