Andrew Garfield has revealed that he doesn't dwell on the pressure of playing Spider-Man and making a successful sequel.

While the team behind The Amazing Spider-Man 2, including director Marc Webb, will be hoping to surpass the success of their first outing in 2012, the actor said he doesn't think about those aspects.

"As soon as you start thinking that way, you're just gonna create c***p. The only focus can be story, story, story, character, character, character," he said.

"You just want to create the experience for an audience and then hope the other things follow."

Andrew, who has been dating his co-star Emma Stone since they met on the set of the first film, admitted he feels more at ease in the superhero suit this time around, but joked it felt slightly snug.

"I'm older, only by a couple of years, but, as we all know, your metabolism starts to slow down," the 30-year-old said.

He now feels "ownership" over the character, and the new chapter. "In the first instalment, we had to establish ourselves. Now we have the freedom to own the characters and expand the relationships," he explained.

The actor, who was born in LA but brought up in Surrey, revealed there's more playfulness in his superhero alter-ego in the sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

"As Peter Parker, he has all the same problems we all have; girl problems, money problems," Andrew said. "But when he puts on the suit, it's a massive release. He can breathe. He takes joy and pleasure in it, and a playfulness comes out of him."
