Iko Uwais has revealed that he didn't suffer any major injuries in The Raid 2.

The Indonesian pencak silat star reprises his role in the action-packed sequel, which is directed and written by Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans.

"Thankfully, I didn't have anything too serious, mostly just bruises, cuts and little bashes here and there," he said.

The actor joked: "The only thing that hurt was my heart because of Gareth," to which the director replied: "(It's) the emotional games I play with him. I'm terribly manipulative like that. I make him feel like he's wanted one minute and then, like a stranger the next."

Iko, who rose to international stardom after starring in Gareth's The Raid, admitted that the prison riot scene, which saw the prisoners fighting in mud, in the second film was the toughest to shoot.

"The mud scene and the prison riot was ridiculously difficult because the choreography had to be clear. It had to be concise and direct but at the same time, there were a lot of difficulties," he explained.

"The ground was so slippery that it was hard to keep balance. I had to fight against a number of different people... so the timing has to be exact. Not only did we have to get the process and the timing right, but also the camera movement, because sometimes we would hit and block and mud would fling across and splat across the lens."

The 31-year-old star added: "So you had a really good take, but you would have to go again. There were a lot of different elements and a lot of fighters in the background so it was probably the most physically taxing scene we shot."
