NETFLIX pick of the week best worst movie
A documentary about Troll 2, a film often considered the worst movie of all time.
There are bad movies and then there are good bad movies, the kind that lend themselves to multiple viewings based on their excruciating dialogue, their inexorable plot or their horrific acting. Troll 2 is all of these things.
This documentary follows the cast and crew at cult screenings, conventions and festivals brought about by the resurgence in the film.
There's George Hardy, the dad of the film, now a dentist, a jolly man loved by the local community. There's the mother of the film, now a batty recluse taking care of her own mother. There's the son, who made this documentary, a sane voice in a mix of misfits and pragmatists. Then, there's the grouchy Italian director, who can't understand why everyone has been laughing at his movie for years.
Despite the eccentric characters, the documentary is largely a tribute to the people who featured in Troll 2. No one sets out to make a bad movie and the cast have mixed feelings about their involvement but George embraces it and uses the film to raise funds for his school and promote the film at conventions.
Ultimately, the film excels its source material and reveals itself as a bittersweet movie about life choices, regret and legacy.
