The Film Show - George Byrne and Brian Lloyd have the lowdown on 'Million Dollar Arm' and 'If I Stay'

The Herald's George Byrne and 2fm movie buff Brian Lloyd talk Disney sports drama 'Million Dollar Arm' and getting the hankies out for shameless tearjerker 'If I Stay'.

In Million Dollar Arm, Jon Hamm - best known as Don Draper in Mad Men - plays a struggling sports agent who has the bright idea of travelling to India to recruit young cricketers to play baseball.

Million Dollar Arm is the latest in a long line of Disney sports dramas and despite being based on a true story, the plot is derivative and offers nothing new.

However, George is a fan and says the flick is boosted by the charm of leading man Hamm and co-stars Bill Paxton, Lake Bell, Surad Sharma, and Alan Arkin.

India, also apparently looks great.

If I Stay, on the other hand, didn't quite impress George and Brian to the same extent, with George labelling the young adult drama (with a touch of fantasy) "drippy".

It stars Chloe Grace Moretz as a teen who is left in a coma after a car crash and must battle her way back to be with her boyfriend.  It's Moretz' first adult leading lady role, but Brian reckons it's a mis-step in an otherwise impressive CV.
