Sex Tape (18) - 'there’s nothing remotely funny about this travesty of a film'
Comedy. Starring Jason Segel, Cameron Diaz, Rob Corddry, Ellie Kemper, Rob Lowe. Directed by Jake Kasdan. Cert 15A
Oh my, this is truly embarrassing. With two attractive screen presences in Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz, a writing team of Segal and Nicholas Stoller (who gave us The Muppets) and a director in Jake Kasdan, how could everything have gone so horribly wrong?
Is it just the crudity of the dialogue or the relentless plugging of the iPad (a mention at least every 30 seconds) or simply that once-talented people saw that they had a bomb on the hands but went ahead anyway? Either way, if you’ve seen the trailer for this then you’ve seen essentially seen the film as Jay and Annie (Segal and Diaz) decide to spice up their marriage by going through The Joy of Sex and recording it.
Ah, but wouldn’t you know it, Jay makes some technical screw-up with the result that they have to dash around to retrieve several devices before their efforts are uploaded onto a website.
Apart from one scene where Diaz and Rob Lowe, a potential publisher of some
horrendous blog she writes, snort coke and listen to Slayer there’s nothing remotely funny about this travesty of a film.
