Destroyer review: 'Kidman staggers through this woozy film with a stubborn sense of purpose'
In everything at the minute, and uniformly brilliant, Nicole Kidman pushes herself into new and dark territory in Karyn Kusama’s unflinching crime drama.
Detective Erin Bell is something of a joke within the LAPD, a washed-up cop who turns up drunk to work.
But Erin is obsessed with a case she worked 17 years ago, and when a body turns up bearing odd markings, she suspects it’s the work of an old enemy.
Heavily made up to look like someone mired in excess, Kidman staggers through this woozy film with a stubborn sense of purpose.
She takes several beatings, and gives a few too, so much so that her gender feels irrelevant.
