Will William Shatner appear as Captain James T Kirk in Star Trek 3?

Reports abound that William Shatner will return to the captain's chair in JJ Abrams' upcoming third instalment in the reboot.
According to the Alamo Drafthouse blog BadAssDigest, the script for Star Trek 3 includes a scene for Kirk and Spock - the original duo, played by Leonard Nimoy and Shatner.
Shatner, 83, played Captain James T Kirk in the original 1960s Star Trek series and reprised the role for seven films.
Abrams' first Star Trek film included an alternate timeline plot with allowed Leonard Nimoy to return as an older version of Spock, who meets with his younger incarnation, played by Zachary Quinto.
However, Shatner was ruled out of appearing in the film because he had a 'no cameo' policy. In order to appear he would have had to have had a bigger role.
In 2008, Abrams said, “The bigger thing was that he was very vocal that he didn’t want to do a cameo. We tried desperately to put him in the movie, but he was making it very clear that he wanted the movie to focus on him significantly, which, frankly, he deserves.”
So, perhaps Abrams has written a larger role for the legendary star?
