Will Smith was desperate for a cameo in Magic Mike XXL, according to his wife, and the film’s star, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Speaking to at the movie’s London premiere, the 43 year-old actress - who plays a strip club madam in the steamy sequel - admitted her Oscar-nominated husband was hankering for a chance to flex his six pack but couldn’t find the time off work.

“Will wanted badly to come down to set and sneak himself into the background with a few slick movies but was stuck working on his own stuff,” she says. “He would have relished the chance.”

And luckily, Smith, 46, had no problems with his wife working with oiled-up hunky co-stars Channing Tatum and Joe Manganiello.

“He was simply like, ‘this job is perfect for you.’ He wouldn’t be like that, he saw it as a great opportunity to work with a fantastic bunch of people.”

Jada also got a little extra support from her popstar daughter, Willow (15), who had ulterior motives of her own.

“She was like, ‘Do it, do it! That’s the best job in the world! You gotta do it Mom!’ But it’s only because she really wanted to meet Channing. That was all she cared about.”

Alongside her Hollywood career, Pinkett Smith is also lead singer in rock back, Wicked Wisdom who once toured with Britney Spears. But the star has no plans to collaborate musically with her musical family.

“Will raps, so does Jaden, Willow sings and raps and we’ve talked about it, I don’t know if I’m that cool. My kids love me to death and they think I’m kinda cool but I don’t think I’m that cool that they would actually want to sing with me on something. Might get a little too Brady Bunch.”

Magic Mike XXL is in cinemas now
