WATCH: First trailer for Stephen King's IT - are you brave enough? Newsdesk Newsdesk

The trailer features a terrifying new version of the child-eating clown.

The trailer starts off in the same way as the 1990 version: a young boy follows a paper boat down a street and when it disappears down a drain, he spots a clown lurking below.

The clown is even creepier than before in the updated version, directed by Andrés Muschietti (Mama).

It also stars Bill Skarsgård (Allegiant, Hemlock Grove) as the chilling child-killler, Pennywise, and a cast of young actors including Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Nicholas Hamilton (Captain Fantastic).

The official synopsis for the film reads: "When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries."
