WATCH: Alternate ending to Get Out has surfaced and it's beyond bleak
***WARNING: SPOILERS FOR GET OUT***
Watching Oscar-nominated horror Get Out is a visceral, edge-of-your-seat, anxiety-laden experience so when that final scene arrives with Chris' (Daniel Kaluuya) best mate Rod (Lil Rel Howery) saving the day, it's a very welcome relief.
However, an alternate ending has surfaced online in which things don't end up quite so well for Chris.
The film, which tackles racism through the horror genre, sees Chris heading off, with his white girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams), to meet her family for the first time.
Unfortunately, once he's there he finds out, in the most horrifying way, that they lure black people to their home so that they can transplant the brains of elderly, dying white people into their young bodies.
When he manages to escape and dispense of the family one by one, ending with Rose, he's then rescued by his pal Rod who rocks up in a police car. In the alternate version, however, he's handcuffed by two white cops.
Writer/director Jordan Peele revealed to Buzzfeed podcast Another Round that he actually wrote several different endings for the film.
The positive ending came about because he needed "to transform into something that gives us a hero, that gives us an escape, that gives us a positive feeling."
"There's nothing more satisfying than seeing the audience go crazy when Rod shows up."
Get Out has been nominated for four Oscars including Best Picture, Best Performance by an Actor for Kaluuya, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for Peele.
