Saoirse Ronan's new film Lady Bird has become Rotten Tomatoes' best reviewed movie of all time
It knocks Toy Story 2 off top spot
Lady Bird, starring Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, is currently enjoying a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
It shares that achievement with classics including All About Eve, Seven Samurai, Citizen Kane, and more on the review aggregator site.
However, Toy Story 2 has trumped all of those since it landed in 1999 - as it enjoyed a 100% fresh rating with the most reviews.
Now Lady Bird, which released in the US on November 3 has knocked it off the top spot with 170 positive reviews compared to Toy Story 2's 163.
Directed and written by Greta Gerwig, the coming of age tale about a girl in the 90s who wants to lose her virginity before college has been generating Oscar buzz, for leading star Saoirse too.
“We put our heart and souls into this movie, and the last step of this deeply collaborative art form of filmmaking is giving the film to the audience and the film critics,” Gerwig said.
“That there has been such a warm reception is a dream come true. Thank you to everyone who has seen the film and has written about it so thoughtfully. We are all on cloud nine and using our tomato emoji more than we ever thought possible.”
As the film is still being reviewed and won't hit the UK and Ireland until February 2018 it could fall from the top spot although that looks unlikely.
Saoirse has started off awards season on the right foot having bagged the Best Actress award for her role at the IFP Gotham Awards on Monday night.
On receiving her award, she said, "It’s very heavy," and dedicated it to "the two women who mean so much to me," referencing her mother and director Gerwig.Saoirse Ronan kicks off awards season with a Best Actress win for Lady Bird at Gotham Awards Saoirse Ronan is generating serious buzz for another Best Actress Oscar nomination
