Saoirse makes a stand on the Golden Globes red carpet - by wearing black
Saoirse Ronan turned heads on the red carpet last night, rubbing shoulders with Hollywood's A-list at the Golden Globe awards.
The Carlow actress (23) looked stunning on the red carpet outside the Beverly Hills Hotel and, as promised, wore a black dress for the awards ceremony.
Several other attendees, including Dubliner Catriona Balfe and Meryl Streep, also wore black in support of the Time's Up movement, aimed at supporting women who have made sexual assault claims in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.
Ronan did not show up alone to the glitzy Hollywood bash, and was accompanied by a childhood pal for the ceremony, who also wore black.
She was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role as Christine McPherson in 'Lady Bird'.
She was against the likes of Margot Robbie for 'I, Tonya', Emma Stone for 'Battle of the Sexes' and Judi Dench for 'The Leisure Seeker'.
Ronan was hot favourite to win the coveted award in the weeks leading up to the ceremony, while 'Lady Bird' was also thought to be the top contender, alongside horror-comedy 'Get Out', for the Best Motion Picture - Comedy award.
Ronan is now thought to be a serious contender for an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, which would be her third time to be nominated after receiving nods for 'Atonement' and 'Brooklyn'.
Other actresses tipped to be in the running for the Oscar include Frances McDormand, Streep and Sally Hawkins.
