It can't have been the warmest of locations but Rooney Mara and Theo James were wrapped up warm during filming for Jim Sheridan's 'The Secret Scripture' on a Dublin beach on Thursday.
The film adaptation of Sebastian Barry's 2008 novel features an all-star cast including Rooney, Jack Reynor, Erica Bana, Oscar-winner Vanessa Redgrave, Jeremy Irons and British actor Theo, who is best know for The Inbetweeners.
The story is told by Roseanne, who is uncertain of her age and recounts her experiences in asylums in Ireland over 60 years.
As the story unfolds, audiences discover the why and the how of Roseanne’s incarceration and are also introduced to the second narrator, Roseanne’s psychiatrist Dr William Grene.
Cork-born Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain were initially lined up for lead roles, but bowed out due to scheduling conflicts.
They were replaced by IFTA-winning Wicklow star Reynor, who has been taking the industry by storm since landing a part in the fourth instalment of the Transformers franchise, and American actress Mara.
Reynor (22) has been cast as the love interest of Mara’s character Roseanne.
It has been reported that 46-year-old Bana will play a rebellious doctor responsible for reviewing Roseanne’s case, while James will play the local Catholic priest.
