Robert Downey Jr: 'I'm happy my son was arrested'
Robert Downey Jr is “grateful” authorities arrested his son for alleged cocaine possession.
Indio Downey, 20, was arrested on felony narcotics charges around 2 p.m. Sunday following a traffic stop, a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department spokesperson confirmed to CBSLA on Monday.
Robert, who battled with drug addiction for years, said in a statement he hopes the incident will be an eyeopener for his son.
“We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s Department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale,” Robert said.
Authorities say Indio was a passenger in a vehicle when the driver was pulled over in West Hollywood, Los Angeles and the Hollywood star's son was subsequently taken into custody.
Further details surrounding the arrest were not provided.
Indio was released just after midnight Monday after posting $10,250 bail, according to CBSLA.com.
He is scheduled to appear in court August 29.
Previous reports indicated Indio, Robert’s son with ex-wife Deborah Falconer, was treated for his use of prescription pills last October.
His famous father endured several run-ins with the law, including an arrest for possession of heroin, cocaine and an unloaded handgun while speeding in his car and missing various drug tests, resulting in the actor doing nearly a year in California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison in Corcoran, California, in 1999.
