Older Than Ireland has been tipped for an Oscar nomination for next year's awards.

The film is the only Irish entry for the Best Documentary award at the 2017 Academy Awards.

Scannain.com reports that the heart-warming documentary has been considered eligible for the prestigious awards and will be the only Irish entry among the 145 films in the Best Documentary category.

The film, which was funded by the Irish film board, tells the story of life through the eyes of thirty Irish centenarians.

Directed by Alex Fegan, Older Than Ireland looks back at each centenarians life and reflects on key events throughout political and social changes.

Older Than Ireland won Best Irish Documentary at the Galway Film Fleadh , while Fegen received a Rising Star nomination at the IFTAs earlier this year.

Nominations for the 89th Academy Awards will be announced on January 24.
