Nothing is sacred - we're getting a Grease prequel
Forty one years after the release of the original, Grease is getting a prequel.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Paramount Studios is planning a film titled Summer Loving, which will flesh out the first meeting between Sandy and Danny.
It will be based on the song Summer Nights from the original musical film which explained how the teens had met and fallen in love over the summer.
Olivia Newton-John played Sandy Olsson in the original film opposite John Travolta's Danny Zuko and the film itself was the biggest release of the year, taking a whopping $395 million.
The hits were inescapable in the charts. Its soundtrack, containing hits including Hopelessly Devoted To You, Summer Nights and You’re The One That I Want, is one of the best-selling albums of all-time.
Unfortunately, the sequel, Grease 2, didn't quite measure up despite the charms of Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell Caulfied.
The cast for the prequel has yet to be revealed, although there is one nugget of hope in the form of writer John August, who previously adapted the screenplay for the wonderful Big Fish as well as penning the script for Doug Liman's Go.
