Liam Neeson's son has revealed that his Oscar-winning dad pleaded with him not to follow in his acting footsteps.

The Taken star's eldest son Micheal (19), who is a fashion art gallery curator, has told how his famous father was eager to see him do something other than acting.

However, his mother, the late actress Natasha Richardson and her family were more supportive of his acting dream.

"Dad was like 'please become a carpenter or something'," Micheal explained. "On my Mum's side I was encouraged to do whatever I wanted. I've done a couple of drama courses."

Despite his father's advice, Micheal admitted he wouldn't rule out a move into acting in the future.

"My inner actor is in there somewhere, it's lingering in the shadows" he said.

Micheal also opened up on how U2 frontman Bono comforted him when his mother died after a skiing accident in 2009.

"[Bono] said, 'Yeah I lost my Mum at your age too', and that was all he said," he told the Evening Standard.

"Dad was really touched. Bono wasn't saying it as in, look at what I became."
