Jamie Dornan set to star opposite Cillian Murphy in WWII drama Anthropoid
Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan is set to star opposite fellow Irish man and Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy in WWII film Anthropoid.
Dornan will play a Czechoslovakian soldier who takes part in an assassination attempt on SS officer Reinhard Heydrich, known as 'The Butcher of Prague'.
Directed by Sean Ellis, it is based on the true story of Operation Anthropoid. In 1942 two Czech soldiers, trained by British forces, parachuted in to Nazi-occupied Prague and attacked Heydrich.
He died from his injuries several days later which prompted the SS to massacre thousands of civilians.
Filming will star in July. Ellis said: “I feel incredibly proud to bring the story of Anthropoid to the big screen … In the Czech Republic, it is a story of great national pride, and it’s time to tell the world that story.”
Before heading to Prague, Dornan will shoot Jadotville, in which he plays UN commander Patrick Quinlan caught in a siege in 1961 in the Congo. Netflix has acquired the rights and will screen the film next year.
