Irish actress Caitriona Balfe to star with George Clooney and Julia Roberts in 'Money Monster'
Former model and Outlander star Caitriona Balfe has bagged a high profile Hollywood role in Jodie Foster's new film Money Monster.
Balfe (35), who was born in Monaghan and began modelling at 18, will star alongside George Clooney, Julia Roberts and breakout star Jack O'Connell in the drama.
Clooney will play Lee Gates, a television stock trader, whose program — Money Monster — and life are taken hostage by an outraged gunman (O’Connell).
The world watches in real time as Gates must keep himself alive and, with help from the woman who produces the show (Roberts), uncover the truth behind a tangle of lies.
Balfe will play the head of PR for the company whose stock bottomed, causing the life's savings of O’Connell’s character to be wiped out.
The Irish actress, whose modelling career saw her starring in shows and campaigns for Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, DKNY and Burberry, among others, is enjoying huge success with TV series Outlander.
The series sees her torn between two different time periods and two different men, and has already been commissioned for a second season.
Her other film credits include Super 8, Now You See Me, and Escape Plan whilst she has also undertaken several TV projects.
