Irish actress Caitriona Balfe to get award at pre-Oscars ceremony
Irish actress Caitriona Balfe is to be honoured with an Oscar Wilde Award at a glittering LA ceremony to recognise the Irish in entertainment.
Director JJ Abrams will MC at the annual US-Ireland Alliance event at Bad Robot Productions in Santa Monica on February 23. Dublin singer Glen Hansard (46) will also receive an award and perform at the pre-Oscars ceremony.
Balfe (37), a two-time Golden Globe nominee and Bafta award winner, has established herself as a star following her role in drama Outlander.
Trina Vargo, founder of the US-Ireland Alliance, said: "It's been a great year for Irish actresses and we're delighted to honour one who is receiving well-deserved recognition for her success in Outlander.
"Given Caitriona's intense schedule of time travel, and the cold and rainy Scottish weather, our event should be relaxing for her. The one thing Outlander and the awards have in common is whiskey."
