A teenage film critic has apologised to Hollywood actress and comedian Amy Schumer for making a sexist joke about her on Twitter.

Jackson Murphy (17) met the Trainwreck star on the red carpet at the Critics' Choice Awards on Monday.

She posed for a photo with Jackson, who was there with his father, Canadian sports journalist Dan Murphy.

Later Jackon posted the photo to Twitter with the caption, "Spent the night with @amyschumer. Certainly not the first guy to write that."

However, Jackson deleted the post after Amy responded to the tweet and tagged his father.

"I get it. Cause I'm a whore? Glad I took a photo with you. Hi to your dad."

The teenage immediately backed down and apologised profusely to the star, "I truly apologise.  Thought you'd like the joke.  I should leave the comedy to you! Thanks for the photo. Glad you won last night!"

Schumer replied, "That's really okay hone. I just remember thinking you and your dad were sweet and it was a bummer to read that."
