First look: Bridget Jones is back in first image released from Bridget Jones's Baby starring Renee Zellweger
When we first met Bridget Jones, she was obsessed with self-help books. But now, 15 years after the first of Helen Fielding's bestselling novels was turned into a blockbuster film, Jones is more likely to be finding solace on Instagram or with mindfulness apps.
The first image to be released from the third Bridget Jones film, Bridget Jones's Baby, shows star Renée Zellweger clutching an iPad in a smart red leather case, and wearing a cosy chunky-knit cardigan.
Filming began on the Bridget Jones's Diary sequel on Friday. The plot catches up with where we left Jones's after the second film, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, and is set between the Fielding's second novel (of the same name) and her third, Mad About the Boy.
As the title would suggest, Bridget Jones's Baby finds the hapless heroine pregnant, and not sure who could be the father.
Colin Firth is due to return as Jones's on-off boyfriend Mark – who controversially leaves Jones in Fielding's third novel – but Patrick Dempsey is said to have been cast as his on-screen love rival, and potential father to the unborn child.
Daniel Cleaver, the handsome rogue played by Hugh Grant, will not be rejoining the cast, however: Grant was originally attached to the project, but has since dropped out.
Bridget Jones's Baby will be released in September 2016.
