First image of Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan in WWII thriller Anthropoid released
The first image of Irish stars Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy in WWII thriller Anthropoid has been released.
Dornan plays a Czechoslovakian soldier who takes part in an assassination attempt on SS officer Reinhard Heydrich, known as 'The Butcher of Prague'.
Directed by Sean Ellis, it is based on the true story of Operation Anthropoid. In 1942 two Czech soldiers, trained by British forces, parachuted in to Nazi-occupied Prague and attacked Heydrich.
He died from his injuries several days later which prompted the SS to massacre thousands of civilians.
Filming is currently shooting in the Czech Republic and the cast also includes Toby Jones, Bill Milner, Alena Mihulova and Sam Keeley.
Ellis previously said: “I feel incredibly proud to bring the story of Anthropoid to the big screen … In the Czech Republic, it is a story of great national pride, and it’s time to tell the world that story.”
Ellis also revealed that it has taken 14 years to get the film made.
Before heading to Prague, Fifty Shades of Grey star Dornan shot Jadotville, in which he plays UN commander Patrick Quinlan caught in a siege in 1961 in the Congo.
Netflix has acquired the rights and will screen the film next year.
