Fans famous and otherwise have taken to Twitter to express their shock and sadness at the death of legendary British actor Christopher Lee.

Presenter Jonathan Ross, a massive fan of film, was one of the first celebs to pay his respects, "So sad to hear that Sir Christiphet Lee has died. A great actor, a great star, a surprisingly good singer and a lovely lovely man."

Actor Paddy Considine posted a photo of Lee and wrote, "A true legend has passed. Sir Christopher Lee."

The 93-year-old actor passed away at 8.30am on Sunday at London’s Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, sources close to his family said.

He had been treated there for respiratory problems and heart failure over the preceding three weeks and turned 93 in hospital.

Lee starred in countless movies from the Hammer Horror series to Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings.
