Exclusive: 'Very emotional and terrifying' - Take a sneak peek at the year's scariest movie Newsdesk Newsdesk

If you have a fear of clowns, maybe it's best steer clear of the cinema this September.

Horror Thriller IT, based on Stephen King's best-selling novel, tells the story of seven young outcasts who call themselves 'the Losers’ Club'.

Each of them has been ostracized for one reason or another; each has a target on their back from the local pack of bullies…and all have seen their inner fears come to life in the form of an ancient shapeshifting predator they can only call It.

The film, directed by Andy Muschietti, stars a variety of talented young actors, including Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special), Jeremy Ray Taylor (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip), Sophia Lillis “37), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Wyatt Oleff (“Guardians of the Galaxy).

The movie adaptation has already wowed one high profile fan in Stephen King, who has blasted some adaptations of his work.

"I had hopes, but I was not prepared for how good it really was.

"I think my fans will really enjoy the movie."

"I want ‘IT’ to be terrifying, but very touching.  It’s a horror movie, but it’s also a movie about friendship and love and the unifying power of belief," said Muschietti, who also directed Mama.

"We want to take audiences on an emotional journey…but it’s one very scary ride."

IT is in Irish cinemas on September 8th.
