He's covered in tattoos, he has a bit of a paunch and he's considerably shorter than her, but Benji Madden is the man for whom Cameron Diaz has waited.

"Now I got the best man ever. My special man. He's mine," the actress said in her speech at their wedding last Monday, and while very happy for her, the rest of the world seemed to be in agreement that there's no accounting for taste. She has waited until the age of 42 to wed because, she said, she didn't want to "settle" for a lesser man, and for that we applaud her, even if he's not the groom everyone else envisaged for her.

There have been a whole lot of boyfriends in the life of Cameron Diaz, ranging from Matt Dillon through Justin Timberlake to, apparently, P Diddy, but Benji, after a mere eight-month courtship, is the man she chose to marry. He's a rocker who has Nicole Ritchie for a sister-in-law (she's married to his twin), but he's not the rom-com-heartthrob-type she favours in the movies.

Perhaps it's that we kind of thought she could do better, or maybe it's just that, despite the A-list guest list and the seranading of the pair by Ryan Adams and Benji's twin's father-in-law, Lionel Ritchie, it's just not Hollywood enough. Then again, not everyone can offer up the fairy tale we're used to from Brad and Angelina - and maybe that's just as well.
