Dakota Fanning filming Sweetness in the Belly in Dublin
Dakota Fanning is filming immigrant drama Sweetness in the Belly in Dublin.
The 24-year-old Ocean's 8 star plays Lily Abdal, a young woman who was born in Britain but moved to Africa with her parents as a child. After their deaths she is taken in by an Islamic convert who raises her Muslim.
As a teenager she falls in love with a doctor but she is forced to flee civil war and escapes to England as a refugee where she works to help people find family members.
Screen International reports that Saoirse Ronan was originally attached to the role when the film was announced last year at the Berlin Film Festival.
Zeresenay Berhane Mehari is directing while Laura Philips has adapted the screenplay from Camilla Gibb's best-selilng novel. The film also stars Wunmi Mosaku and Kunal Nayyar.
Filming will take place in both Dublin, which is representing London in the 70s, and Ethiopia.
The film is produced by Jennifer Kawaja and Julia Sereny of Sienna Films and Irish production company Parallel Films' Alan Moloney and Susan Mullen.
Dakota will next appear on the big screen in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time In Hollywood opposite Brad Pitt, Leonardo Di Caprio, and Margot Robbie.
A release date for Sweetness in the Belly has yet to be announced.
