Christian Bale has been 'eating a lot of pies' and is almost unrecognisable
He doesn't look quite like this anymore
Christian Bale is almost unrecognisable as he has piled on the pounds for a new role.
The Dark Knight star is set to play former US Vice President Dick Cheney and he's going full method by inhabiting his character's physicality, which is a tad tubbier than his own.
"I’m just eating a lot of pies so far," he told Variety at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Fans were surprised to see a more rotund Bale on the red carpet with his wife Sibi Blazic to promote Hostiles on Monday at TIFF.
It's not the first time the 43-year-old star has piled on the pounds for a role. He previously gained a paunch for his role in American Hustle.
He told OTRC at the time, "It's easy to star with... you're just sitting on your butt and you're eating lots of donuts and eating bread and everything like that. But you do it for two months and your body starts to rebel against you. It's just saying, 'No, please,' and your back is aching and there's also some problems with that."
He has also swung the other direction, losing weight for The Fighter and The Machinist.
For the latter he dropped 55kg and went straight from that to playing Batman in the Dark Knight trilogy, which required piling on muscle very quickly.
He reportedly pulled out of the Ferrari biopic early last year after he had trouble gaining enough weight in time for filming.
