Andrew Scott, who starred in the most recent James Bond film, thinks Irish heart-throb Aidan Turner would make a fantastic replacement when current Bond star Daniel Craig hangs up his boots.

With rumours rife that Craig may soon depart the Bond franchise, a host of leading men have been mentioned as potential replacements for the 007 role.

Poldark star Turner is among the contenders who Hollywood bosses are said to be considering for the iconic part, played in the past by actors such as Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan and Roger Moore.

“I am sure Aidan would be good at it. Absolutely,” Scott told the Herald. “He would be great, he is a great actor. I do not know if it is definite that Daniel has left. Who knows when that will be.”

If Craig gets his way, he will be leaving the franchise sooner rather than later.

The 48-year-old revealed earlier this year he is eager not to have to reprise the famous role again.

“I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists,” he told Time Out. “I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on,” he said.

It was previously reported that Clondalkin native Turner flew to Los Angeles to have meetings with Bond producers about potentially taking on the role.

“Aidan has held preliminary talks with Bond producers.

“Being in LA will give him a further chance to discuss the role,” a source said.

However, Turner faces stiff competition from several other big stars who are said to be contenders for the part. A-listers including Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, Damien Lewis and Idris Elba have all been named as potential Bonds.

Meanwhile, Scott’s career continues to rise. The 39-year-old will next be seen in upcoming flick Alice Through The Looking Glass, in which he stars alongside Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway.

Unfortunately, the Dubliner did not get to spend much time rubbing shoulders with the film’s stars.

“I have only got a little bit of that,” he said. “I have not actually seen that film yet. I play a bit of a crazy person.”

Scott is currently filming Handsome Devil with Moe Dunford and Amy Huberman.
