Mickey Rourke has admitted he found it tough to master Russian for his role in Iron Man 2.

The Wrestler star plays Russian technology expert Ivan Vanko in the blockbuster, alongside Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow, and headed to Russia to prepare for the role.

"It was quite challenging learning to speak Russian because the language is very hard to wrap an English tongue around," he admitted.

Mickey, who met his Russian model girlfriend Elena Kuletskaya there, employed a tutor to help him learn the language.

"I had a Russian teacher for three months, five days a week for around three hours a day. To learn two lines would take three weeks," he said.

"And then I have a Russian girlfriend who would make fun of my accent so that was really hard."

Iron Man 2 is in cinemas now.
