Michael Shannon: Acting helped me
Michael Shannon has revealed he found acting a therapeutic way to deal with his problems.
The Take Shelter star admitted to The Guardian he was a somewhat disturbed child who was referred to a psychiatrist, only to trash their office and refuse their help. He found acting a release.
Michael revealed: "It was basically a way to make feelings and impulses I was having appropriate.
"Onstage it was like: 'Please go ahead, scream, run around, beat your chest' and everybody says how wonderful you are."
But the 37-year-old actor - known for his dark roles - insists he is no longer trying to "exorcise any demons" through his work.
He said: "I'm actually a pretty composed person. I guess people imagine I spend my life thinking about crazy, sinister things but I don't, really. It's not like I'm trying to exorcise any demons."
